Mission:

The mission of the Healthcare Reiki program is to provide Reiki students and practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to offer Reiki in healthcare settings, workplace environments, or for personal well-being. Our program emphasizes the importance of self-care in an ever-changing world, recognizing that Reiki can be a transformative tool for stress management, resilience, and holistic healing in any professional or personal setting.

Reiki is a powerful yet gentle practice that aligns with the body’s natural ability to heal. Rooted in compassion, mindfulness, and holistic care, our approach prioritizes self-care as the foundation for sustainable healing work. In today’s fast-paced and evolving world, Reiki practitioners must cultivate personal well-being to effectively support others. Whether applied in healthcare, corporate, educational, or individual settings, Healthcare Reiki serves as a valuable practice for releasing fear on all levels as a way of restoring balance, reducing stress, and fostering mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Healthcare Reiki Student Learning Outcomes and Goals:

1. Students will understand the requirements for providing Reiki in Healthcare and other settings.

   1. Students will demonstrate proficiency in explaining the requirements for integrating Reiki into healthcare and other settings.

   2. Students will role-play presenting Healthcare Reiki to potential administrators.

   3. Students will demonstrate awareness of the Reiki scope of practice and the legislation surrounding It.

2. Students will demonstrate proficiency in describing the history of Healthcare Reiki, its symbols, and sharing sessions with others.

   1. Students will demonstrate skills in effective oral communication, telling the story of Healthcare Reiki and Reiki in general.

   2. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Healthcare Reiki symbols through use and class discussion.

   3. Students will practice giving sessions to others.

3. Students will recognize that the Reiki journey begins with the individual.

   1. Students will embrace self-session as the foundation for helping others and the world.

   2. Students will recognize and trust their inner authority as their primary source of guidance.

   3. Students will understand that flexibility and compassion are essential pillars of Healthcare Reiki in a changing world.

4. Students will cultivate an awareness of the connection between mind-body-spirit and its impact of health.

   1. Students will recognize that human evolution necessitates adaptable, individualized treatments.

   2. Students will identify the nine energy centers as taught in Human Design.

• The Way of Reiki

The class is a combination of lecture, discussion and experience. Practice time includes giving and receiving a complete Reiki treatment, self -treatment, practice using all the symbols (4) and practice using the HCR experiences.

While practice takes place during the class, it is expected that you will set aside additional time to practice after the class is over. Please commit to this additional time which should be one evening a week for several weeks, or its equivalent, to practice Reiki with one or more people from your Reiki class or with members of your family or friends. This additional practice is necessary to gain the experience and confidence you need to fully utilize the Reiki training and integrate it into the healthcare environment or any environment of your choosing.

Use in Hospitals

Reiki is becoming increasingly popular with the medical community, with over 800 hospitals across the U.S. offering Reiki as a standard part of hospital care. A research study at Hartford Hospital, in Hartford, Connecticut indicates that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86 percent, reduced pain by 78 percent, reduced nausea by 80 percent, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94 percent. In addition, nurses report that Reiki helps patients heal faster with less pain, reduces stress and improves mental attitude, improves appetite, and reduces the negative side effects of chemotherapy, radiation and other medical procedures.

Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven offers a Complementary Services Program that promotes relaxation. Therapy sessions are available for anyone receiving cancer treatment at Smilow Cancer Hospital.
