How To Bring Reiki Back Into Your Life After A Long Absence

Energy bodies are like gardens.
They require constant care to see them bloom.
Without conscious attention, they end up developing at random, looking like a still painting after a heavy winter.
But this doesn't mean the potential is gone.
The roots are still there. The desire to grow hasn't vanished.
All they need is your conscious attention, once again.
I had this conversation with some of my students the other week. They were wondering if the attunement is still valid after a long absence from Reiki. If their connection with the universal life force energy is still there. Or if they wasted everything by not practicing.

First of all, we don't need to be so dramatic.
Reiki isn't something you lose.
It's not a cult or belief system that you must attend weekly.
Reiki is simply a tool that helps you guide the universal life force energy for your greater good.
The connection is and will always be there.
But a long absence can weaken this bond and your ability to enhance it with Reiki.
That's the missing piece most practitioners misunderstand.
The goal is not to get stuck in mechanics but to understand the role Reiki plays in this vast (and often mysterious) energetic universe we're part of.
So, let's try to give it some colour.
The Role Of The Attunement
Attunements are sacred rituals.
Even when not performed by formal priests, they represent a moment of profound divine connection. The universal life force energy travels through your emotional, mental, energetic, and physical layers, crystallizing at the level of the inner self.
That is why attunements last a lifetime.
The Way You Live Your Life Matters
We all walk on our unique paths. Each person makes their own choices, bound to their vibration level and perception of the world. Even though we're constantly watched by our guardian angels, we sometimes make decisions on our own.
That's why free will exists.
The decisions we make shape our lives and determine the course of our future selves. There's no judgment. No wrong path. Just the one that works for you.
Sometimes the "bad" choices turn out to be the right ones, while those that seem ideal in the moment are actually forced by external influences. So, naturally, each turn will dictate how the universal life force energy travels through our bodies.
But if you stayed away from Reiki for years, the good choices will promote a steady flow of universal life force energy, while the others will render a sluggish feeling because the channel is obturated.
This has nothing to do with Reiki. It just means you, as a channel, are blocking the natural flow of universal energy.
When you practice Reiki consistently, you live with greater awareness of yourself and the world around you. Therefore, the "bad" choices become lessons and easier to navigate, while the right turns seem to occur with higher frequency.
How To Use Reiki To Reconnect With The Universal Life Force Energy
Reconnection is not about regaining something you lost but reviving something you already have.
Energy work is just like a muscle you haven't worked out in a while. The memory is there. It hasn't left your body. You just have to stimulate it and remember what you're capable of.
That's why many practitioners believe all you need to do is put your palms together and let the energy flow.
This is a sound approach. It's better than nothing, and I won't disagree with it. But I do believe it is incomplete. You can do better and regain balance more quickly.
Here are two options I recommend:
1. Re-attunement - this sacred ritual will drain the residual energies you have gathered over the years and re-establish a clean flow of universal life force energy.
There's nothing wrong with going through an attunement again. Even a baptism can be a wonderful experience as an adult. But it's often unnecessary.
That's where option two comes into play.
2. Self-guided meditation - with just a couple of sessions, you can reset your energy body and re-establish the flow you've been away from for so long.
Here are the steps I recommend:
Save some quiet time for yourself when you can be alone without distractions.
Play some relaxing music, maybe light some candles, and even burn your preferred incense or sage.
Sit in a chair with your back straight and place your hands on your lap.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax.
Visualize a beam of white light descending from your crown chakra and slowly moving through your body.
Allow this beam to fill you with pure, Divine light and cleanse everything in its path.
Once it reaches your feet, visualize it pushing down all the negative and residual energies it has gathered along the way, leaving you cleansed and grounded.
These steps will raise your vibration and recalibrate your energy body to a frequency optimal for your current state. But to reinforce this procedure and achieve the best possible results, follow through with a complete Reiki self-treatment.
Conclusion
Reiki is not the universal life force energy.
It's a tool you can use to consciously channel the universal energy for our greater good. But just like a muscle, this connection weakens without practice. You forget the skills you once had, and the universal energy flow becomes less effective due to the residual energies you accumulate throughout your existence.
That's why putting your hands together can work, but it's incomplete. The best way to restart Reiki is to cleanse yourself first.
Trim the weeds before planting new flowers.
